DIY Sticker Installation

Vehicle preparation

Clean the area on your Ford Ranger with rubbing alcohol or soap and water. Don't use Windex or any waxed based product. Allow to dry, as these stickers are dry install only, no water is required.

Positioning

With the backing paper still on, position the sticker onto the panel of the vehicle, using the contours of the body and the badges etc...on the vehicle to use as a guide for the aligning and positioning of the sticker. Depending on the sticker size, this will generally be a two person job. Once in correct position, take a few pieces of masking tape and secure it in position so you can release the sticker and it stays in the correct position without human intervention.

Most installers like to install using the hinge method, where the masking tape is positioned in the middle of the sticker, and to one side of the sticker, then the side without any masking tape is applied to the vehicle first, which holds the sticker in position, then the masking tape can be removed and the other side of the sticker applied.

Pressing the sticker onto the vehicle

Remove a section of backing paper you are confortable with, usually around 20-30cm, apply soft yet firm tension on the sticker and slowly lower the sticker towards the vehicle panel and rub it in place with a squeegee, credit card or micofibre cloth to activate the adhesive qualities. Start at the middle and then the outer edges. Firmly rub the sticker in place to make sure there is no air trapped under the sticker. It is important to note that vinyl wrapping cast will not fully adhere until it has firm pressure applied to it, so this does give some room for error to peel back the sticker gently (so it does not stretch) allowing another opportunity to position the sticker if it is not on straight for example, or if you can see difficult to remove air bubbles will likely form.

Once you are happy with the first section of sticker that has been applied, it is now time to remove another section of backing tape and repeat the process all the way along the sticker until it is fully in position and fully adhered by pressure to the vehicle.

Oracal vinyl wrapping film has air bubble release technology, meaning it has channels that allow air to escape more easily then regular vinyl film, so this may come in very handy if you get the odd air bubble.

Removing the application tape if applicable

For best results, wait 24 hours then slowly peel the clear cover off at an angle. Be careful not to pull the sticker off the surface. If the sticker pulls away from the surface repeat step 4. Voila, you have completed your DIY sticker installation.
